Collect payment with Tap to Pay (Ordafy mobile) - Currently Supported in Android only
Beginner walkthrough: take contactless card payments on your phone from the Ordafy POS app — Till, Collect payment, and Tap to Pay on this device.
Tap to Pay turns a compatible iPhone or Android into a contactless card reader. Customers tap their card or phone on your device; Ordafy records the payment on the order or booking automatically. This guide covers the flow most staff use at the counter in POS mode.
Before you start
- Install the official Ordafy mobile app
- Sign in to your organisation and open POS.
- Ensure NFC is enabled and you have an internet connection.
- Complete payout setup for your organisation (Business → Payouts or payment settings).
- On Android, allow location permission when prompted — Stripe requires it to discover the Tap to Pay reader.
Step 1 — Create a sale from the Till
Most counter payments start from a sale:
- Open Till on the POS dashboard.
- Add items to the cart and tap Checkout.
- When prompted, open the Order (or booking, for service-only flows).
Checkout records what was sold; the order usually still has a remaining balance until you collect payment.
Step 2 — Open Collect payment
- On the order, open the Payment tab.
- Tap Collect payment.
The screen shows the remaining balance (balance-only — discounts are applied at checkout).
Step 3 — Choose Tap to Pay on this phone
Under How to collect, select:
- Tap to Pay on this phone — take the card payment on this device (this guide).
- Record payment here — cash, bank transfer, or card without Tap to Pay.
- Collect in person on device — send the payment to another staff phone.
Step 4 — Collect the card
- Confirm the amount and order or booking number on the Tap to Pay screen.
- Tap Collect Payment (Tap to Pay).
- Ask the customer to hold their contactless card or phone near the top/back of your device (NFC).
- Keep the phone steady until you see confirmation.
Ordafy connects to Stripe in the background — you may briefly see Connecting… then Hold customer's card or phone near the back of your device.
Step 5 — Confirm on the order
After success, return to the order Payment tab. The remaining balance should be zero (or lower if this was a partial payment). Payment history lists the card payment.
How Tap to Pay settlement works
Contactless card payments are paid to your payout account when you take payment — there is no separate payout request step in Ordafy. View your balance, payout schedule, and bank transfers in Business → Payouts. Complete payout setup before using Tap to Pay; cash and bank payments can still be recorded without it.
Other ways to start
Collect payment hub
From the POS dashboard, open Collect payment → browse Product orders or Service bookings → pick one with an open balance → follow the same Tap to Pay steps.
Pending from web
If someone on the Ordafy web dashboard chooses Collect in person on device, the request appears under Pending from web on the Collect payment hub. Tap Collect, confirm the amount, and complete Tap to Pay on this phone.
Troubleshooting
- Tap to Pay unavailable on this device — use a supported iPhone or Android with NFC; and install the Ordafy mobile app.
- Offline — connect to Wi‑Fi or mobile data before collecting card payments.
- Stripe not ready — finish Connect onboarding and ensure payouts are enabled.
- Order already fully paid — open a different order or create a new sale from Till.
